As the race, sex, gender, sexual orientation of the people we work with and serve become increasingly more diverse, strategies that ensure that each person feels valued are essential for success. Using models and activities that build trust and community to reach goals, I help individuals, groups, and organizations design and implement equitable practices grounded in diversity and inclusion.

Student Achievement in Underserved Communities

Disrupting the predictive power of demographics, particularly of race, is essential to the student achievement in underserved communities. Of course, culturally appropriate resources and programming for students and their families are crucial elements for success. Additionally, as the literature on stereotype threat and implicit bias has found, often it is important to shift the thinking of the adults who are in charge of facilitating learning and social growth for replicable and sustainable results.

Community Schools Approach

It takes a village! This model is touted as an equity strategy that relies on deep collaboration, coordinated services, focused partnerships, and shared leadership, to increase opportunities for success for students and their families. School districts nationwide have adopted this strategy as a means to improve student outcomes by strong relationships with all stakeholders that lead to collective impact.
